- Prepare a floor plan of new
home
- Measure the new location
including location of doorways, windows, closets, emergency pull cords,
heater units, thermostats and electrical outlets, phone and cable
outlets.
- Floor plan will be sketched to
scale on graph paper.
- Measure furniture to be moved
to determine where it will fit in the new place
- Determine the amount of storage
space available at the new place. Is there any additional storage space
available on the premises?
- Downsizing
- Sorting through closets,
drawers, attics, basements and determining the destination of all items
- Taking inventory to review with
the children/family
- Coordinating the elimination of
items not moving, such as giving to family, friends, donations, throw
away.
- Arrange for the profitable sale
and/or disposal of unwanted belongings by getting appraisals and /or
buyers for selected items, including antiques and collectibles
- Packing
- Packing all belongings, making
sure to pack items that will be together in the new place in the same
box
- Will supply boxes but expect
them to be returned to Joe Organizer
- Labeling all boxes with
destination room and contents
- Will take pictures of current
house to try and match the new set up as close to the current set up
(i.e. Curio cabinets) The arrangement of pictures on walls and items on
bureaus.
- Arranging for movers
- Overseeing movers
- Unpacking
- Unpacking all belongings
- Organizing the ‘new home’ for
all belongings, purchasing containers, shelving units if necessary
- Putting all belongings where
they go in the new place, labeling them if necessary
- Directing movers to place
furniture where it belongs
- Setting up the house for the
tenant to make them feel comfortable quickly – setting up VCR’s,
televisions, making the beds, having phone connected and removing boxes
and packing materials
